Talos Energy FAKING WATER TESTS, Fined $4 Million

http://www.nola.com/business/index.ssf/2016/04/talos_energy_fined_pollution_s.html

This oil company pleaded guilty on four counts. They were suspected of tampering with water samples, by running them through coffee filters to remove oil and sludge before submitting the samples for mandatory testing.

This company has annual revenues of $500 Million.

$4 Million fine. $500 Million in revenues. That's not even 1% of revenues, it is insignificant to a company like this. This is exactly why we have so many companies who don't care about polluting the environment (and ultimately, our water).....because fines are based on 1950 levels where $4 million was a lot of money.

The problem is government regulations, which are even more lax in Canada than they are in the USA. This happens everywhere, but it only makes headlines when they get caught.
